River crossing: Outlaw trail Ch. 1

The Outlaw Trail Chapter 1:
Oh what fun. Crossing a rushing river in the dead of a cold November night. The water’s neck-high for the horses at its middle, and at least 30 yards long. Can you stay on?

THUMP! The white stallion stopped so suddenly Ravn hit his face on the back of Naz's neck. Ahead of them lay a dark blue river with a clucking current. A few of the riders were already in the cold water, along with the strange woman they were all following.

Naz hesitated. He was not used to swimming, not to mention crossing a river in the dead of night. Tidemann was already in the water, happily paddling around at the shallow end, wagging his tail. Ravn gave Naz a gentle nudge with his heels, knowing that stress could trigger the uneasy knabbstup. As his heels hit the sides of the stallion, he could feel the entire horse tense up underneath him. "Oh boy.." Ravn thought, lowering his heels, preparing for the horse to bolt off into any direction.

Naz stood there for a second, just staring into the water. He carefully stood up on his hind legs, before he made a big leap into the river, water splashing everywhere. Ravn had never been more surprised at his loyal steed, but oh how proud he felt! The redhead chuckled, watching the big scaredycat splashing his forelegs with his ears pointed up and forward. Giving his trusty partner a small nudge with his seat, Ravn guided his two companions deeper into the dark cold river..
